Evansville became a Bee City by a resolution of the Evansville City Council in September 2025, joining around 220 cities and another 200 college campuses in the mission to “galvanize communities to sustain pollinators by providing them with healthy habitats rich in native plants and free or nearly free of pesticides.”

Bee City Evansville formed a steering committee consisting of representatives from local agencies. SWIMGA is proud to be a member, along with Bee Campus USI, Keep Evansville Beautiful, Evansville Parks & Recreation, Wesselman Woods, Evansville Climate Collaborative, Mesker Zoo, and SW Indiana Native Plant Society. Representatives from UE and the City Engineers’ Office have also been involved in various projects, and there is overlap in this group with the Evansville Forest Alliance.
