Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden Amazonia Docent Program

Amazonia is a breathtaking exhibit of plants and animals native to South American rain forests. It is located at the Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden on Evansville’s northwest side. The SWIMGA plant docent program provides an educational link between the living plant collection at Amazonia and the visitors to Mesker Park. Reaching thousands of interested visitors yearly, the docents engage the public and teach visitors about the unique plant life around them.

Orchid Escape

Each winter visitors immerse themselves in the beauty of artistically displayed orchids in the 75 degree comfort of Amazonia in late February-early March! This indoor rainforest exhibit features South American animals, plants, aquatic life, and artifacts. Orchid experts from the Botanical Docent program help arrange the orchids and are on on hand during weekends of the event to provide information about orchids and orchid care.
