Pack your bags and join SWIMGA as we set out for two great outings.
The first will be to The Gardens of Nashville where we will tour the Cheekwood Estate and Gardens. Cheekwood was the home of Leslie and Mable Cheek, built in 1929. The house and gardens were designed by architect Bryant Fleming and are set on 58 acres. The home was open to the public in 1960 and features a permanent art collection, art pottery, silver collection, historic interiors, and woodland sculpture trail. We will be visiting during the Cheekwood in Spring exhibit which features hundreds of thousands of tulip bulbs, so bring your cameras!! Lunch will be at Puckett’s Grocery and Restaurant-good down home southern comfort food in a charming setting! Then on to the home of our 7th president Andrew Jackson, The Hermitage. The house was built in 1819, and rebuilt in 1834 after suffering a fire. Here we will visit the mansion, gardens, and visitors center to learn about this controversial president before we begin our trip home. This trip is scheduled for Friday, April 13 2018. Price if booked by Dec 15 2017 is $127.
Next, and this is a biggie!!!!!
Chihuly at Biltmore, Asheville North Carolina. What more do I need to say. If you have never seen a Chihuly exhibit, or never been to the Biltmore, this will be the time to go! The Biltmore was constructed in 1889-1895, with the landscaped grounds designed by Frederic Law Ollmstead. The house opened to the public in 1930. We will have a tour of the house, and lunch at the Deerpark Restaurant. We will also be visiting the Folk Art Center which is home to the Southern Highland Craft Guild on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It features traditional and contemporary crafts of the southern Appalachians. The Guild includes 900 juried members from 9 states. We will then have the highlight of the trip, Chihuly Nights, including dinner! The exhibit will be located in the gardens themselves, and is illuminated at night. It will be an absolutely breathtaking site. This trip is scheduled for Sept 5-7, 2018 and includes 5 meals and two nights lodging at the 4 star Inn on Biltmore Estate. . The cost for this trip, if booked by Dec 15 2017 is $748.
