In 2010, as part of the Mt. Vernon Ohio Riverfront Development Project, a large rain garden was constructed. As the area is developed, this rain garden will be a focal point for the community.  

SWIMGA began the first planting in this new rain garden in the fall of 2010. Work will continue in 2011 with the addition of more ornamental grasses and other plants that will be able to tolerate short periods of inundation.
