Summer Bulb Bed

Summer Bulb Bed

The summer bulb garden consists of many bulbs and some annuals that produce color through blooms or foliage from early May until the first killing frost.  There are a Seven Sons tree, picket fences, and birdhouses to add interest.

The annuals change yearly and are mixed in with the sedums around the long edges of the borders.  The curves have a variety of colors with short border lillies in different colors.

The middle of the garden consists of many varieties of cannas, dahlias, and gladiolas — as well as Peruvian daffodils, tuberoses, elephant ears, magic lily, dutch iris, formosa lily, stargazer lily and several different tree lillies.

After the first killing frost many of the bulbs are dug up and stored for the next year, with the dahlias being dug up two weeks later.  We try to add new color and varieties every year.
